Reflection #3

Chapter 3 Summary
The Three major concepts in chapter 3 are Creative Thinking, Felicitating Creative Thinking and still meeting the Standards, and Authentic Instruction. Creative thinking comes in many different types such as Convergent Thinking which means you bring different perspectives to bring a common understanding or conclusion. A key part of developing Creative Thinking is Authentic Instruction. Authentic Instruction can inspire student learning and creativity. There are also many different parts to Authentic Instruction. Learner Autonomy, Active Learning, Holistic Learning, Complex Activities, Challenging Activities, Technology Support, and Directed Instruction.  The last major concept is, Facilitating Creative thinking while meeting Content Standards. This is probably very hard for teachers to do now a days. It’s a very fine balance the between these two. A very important part in this section is having objectives while trying to facilitate creative learning.
One teaching method that was mentioned was having objectives while you teach. I agree with this method because you can still be creative with your students but still keep organized with what you are teaching. There is also Directed Instruction. Directed Instruction materials and objectives are broken down so that they are very easy to follow, there is practice between each objective, and the learners receive quick feedback. Authentic instruction is the other teaching method that was mentioned, it really works with creative learning.
I can incorporate many of these into teaching I really like the directed instruction because you could give students instruction but then let them take control of what they are learning and let them be creative.
Chapter 4 Summary
The three major concept that was how technology could serve as a computer tutor , a mindtool , and support for conversation. With the computer being a tutor opens up a lot for education with the computer being a tutor opens up practice to the student. The mindtool, can serve as a organizational tool, simulation and visualization tool, and a knowledge-building tool. When computers are used for communication it brings the community and group closer together.
The teaching methods that were mentioned in this chapter were Evaluating Information from Online Resources, Concept maps, and Computer-Based Tutorials. Evaluating Information from the internet is very important because the students need to know what information is good and which false. Concept Maps, are graphic tool that organize and represent knowledge. This can help the learners that learn visually. And Lastly the Computer-based tutorials this gives students more practice.
I really like both the concept maps, and the evaluating of online resources. Because they can use this knowledge to expand their own personal knowledge correctly. The concept maps will help visual learners.
Chapter 5 Summary
The three major concepts in this chapter is the self directed learning, technology enriched learning environments, and supporting students’ use of technology and resources. I feel that these three concepts you can sum up of what all needs to take place in the classroom for technology to be successful. Self-directed learning is when the teacher set goals and guidelines and the students then follow and learn what has been given. While supporting students use of technology also means monitoring what the students do.
